Laser Surgery

Laser surgery is an alternative to the traditional use of scalpel in surgical procedures. The laser surgery technique is often preferable because it causes less pain, less bleeding, and less swelling. This translates into reduced risk of infection, more precise surgery, and quicker return to normal activities for your pet.

The laser is a device that generates an intense beam of light at a specific wavelength. The CO2 laser, which is the type used at Stamen Animal Hospital, more precisely incises the body's tissues so surrounding tissues are not affected.

The laser seals nerve endings and small blood vessels so your pet will experience less post-operative pain, bleeding and swelling of tissues. The laser also sterilizes the tissues as it is used which will further minimize risk of infections.

Laser technology can be used in a wide variety of surgical procedures, including canine spay and neuters, feline spays, cyst and tumor removals in the skin, ear, and eye among others.
