Abdominal surgery may be recommended for your pet as a diagnostic tool or as a curative process.
Common reasons for abdominal surgery may include vomiting or diarrhea for which no cause is known and is not responsive to medical therapy, obstruction of the gastrointestinal tract with a potential foreign body or tumor, biopsies of stomach, intestines, liver, kidneys, or other abdominal organ, as well as bladder surgery for stone removal or other causes.
Diagnostic testing including blood tests such as a serum chemistry profile, radiographs, ultrasound or others may be recommended prior to surgery and will help guide treatment and post-operative monitoring.
Post-operative care may include varying lengths of hospital care, dietary restriction and longterm modifications as well as medications for therapy.
