If your pet has symptoms of liver disease or has abnormal liver enzymes on the serum chemistry profile, liver function testing may be recommended. The more common liver function testing is measurement of bile acids. Bile acids will be measured before and one hour after eating a meal high in fat and protein. Results may indicate liver dysfunction and help diagnose different forms of liver disease. Other non-invasive tests which may be recommended include abdominal radiographs, or x-rays, and abdominal ultrasound. Definitive diagnosis of specific liver disease may require liver biopsies. |
